Ekadashi: Understanding the Hindu Fasting Day
In the Hindu calendar, Ekadashi refers to the eleventh lunar day, occurring both after the full moon (Shukla Paksha) and the new moon (Krishna Paksha). It’s considered one of the most important fasts, with “Ekadashi” itself meaning “eleven” in Sanskrit. Twice each month, the Hindu calendar observes Ekadashi: once during the waxing moon (Shukla Paksha, also called Gaura Paksha) and again during the waning moon (Krishna Paksha).
